The bedrooms weren't something Em needed, or wanted, to be thinking about, but the kitchen being John's domain was still a strange enough idea for her the rest was inconsequential.

Just... cognitive dissonance isn't really the right word, but I don't know what would be. I try not to expect people or things to be like the world I'm from, but the differences still throw me sometimes."
